This isn't me always, but there are times... I would like some feedback on this (good or bad), please.
Invective to the sighted species
We are not brothers in God, or Christ, or Ala; make no mistake about it. We are two species living on the same planet. The culture of this planet is defined by you because you are the more numerous and the stronger of the two species.
You see me as your weaker brother, and I know you as the selfish self-centered species of our planet. You have defined me at different times as a sign of the wrath of God, a poor pitiful freak, a prophet, a praise-worthy person for rising above my deplorable condition (but, of course, not quite to your level), never that.
Most of us will Uncle Tom you because we are so few in number. “Yas suh Massa, I doesn’t mine if you ast how I lost my sight? I’s proud to serve your prurient curiosity.” But, as Elliot said, “Should I, after tea and
cakes and ices,
Have the strength to force the moment to its crisis?
But though I have wept and fasted, wept and prayed,
Though I have seen my head [grown slightly bald]
brought in upon a platter,
I am no prophet--and here's no great matter;
I have seen the moment of my greatness flicker,
And I have seen the eternal Footman hold my coat, and snicker,
And in short, I was afraid.” Have you ever imagined that we the blind snicker at your stupidity.
But, you are not just harmless buffoons, you are self-centered takers. You steal the oil from the earth—oil that will never be made again—to drive your single passenger cars, cars which you deem essential to your existence. If you had to wait an hour or so for Para transit, Para transit would certainly be better.
In short, we live among you, but we’re better than you, for we know who we are: we are the other species. And you imagine that we wish we were you... And, I guess, sometimes we do.
I think it's great. It's one of those topics where everyone talks about, but they never write about. And I like that.
I really liked this and it's so true. did you write this or find it? I'd like to show that poem to some people, that's for sure. Good job man. one of the best I think.
I must admit that I wrote it in a fit of anger at the sighted world. Please feel free to post it anywhere: the internet should be free.
By the way, thanks Cala for the nice words.
